Key facts

  • Louth's pass rate was 53.9% in 2025/26 from 740 tests, 3.9 points above the national average of 50.0%.
  • That puts it 9 of 20 centres in East Midlands (East Midlands average 50.8%), a mid-table pass rates in the region, 3.1 points above it.
  • Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 3.3 points, from 57.2% to 53.9%.
  • Male candidates passed at 56.5% and female candidates at 51.3%, a gap of 5.2 points.
  • On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 15.1 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 10 weeks ahead.
  • 26.7% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.

Louth is a give-way test. There are 38 give-way junctions on the practice loops on this page and two sets of traffic signals in the whole of 53.6 kilometres, with no conventional roundabout named anywhere on the set — only six mini-roundabouts. Nothing here tells you when to go. Seven zebra crossings sit among it, a high count for a market town, and 11 schools. It passes 53.9 per cent, 114th of the 302 centres ranked and 3.1 points above the East Midlands average, though the rate has slipped 3.3 points since 2021/22. Sixty-seven per cent of the distance is at 30 mph and 21 per cent at 60, on the lanes out towards Kenwick and Legbourne.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.

Thirty-eight give-way junctions, two sets of traffic signals, and not one conventional roundabout named on the set. That is the whole shape of a Louth test. Six mini-roundabouts do some of the joining and three of the five practice loops on this page have no roundabout of any kind on them, so nearly every junction is one you read for yourself: look, judge the gap, go. The examiner is watching the same decision thirty-odd times, which is why hesitation costs more here than at a centre full of lights.

The turning is heavy with it. One 12.7 kilometre loop asks for twelve right turns; an 8.3 kilometre loop asks for nine right and twelve left.

Sixty-seven per cent of the distance is at 30 mph and 21 per cent at 60, on the roads out past Kenwick Road, Stewton Lane and Legbourne Road. There is no dual carriageway, so that 60 is single-carriageway with hedges and bends, and there is a small amount of 10 mph on private ground around the leisure centre site.

Seven zebra crossings is a lot for a town this size, and with 11 schools in the area they are in use through the day. Wood Lane, Newmarket, Upgate, Eastfield Road, Keddington Road, St Mary's Lane, Albany Road and St Bernards Avenue carry most of the driving, with the A157 and B1200 at the edges. There are no level crossings on the set.

Test day at Louth

The centre is at the Meridian Leisure Centre on Wood Lane, LN11 8RS, on the edge of the town. It shares the site with the leisure centre, so the building is busy with people who are not there for a driving test, and the test centre is not what you see first from the road.

Car tests only are conducted here. No station is close enough to be useful, so everyone arrives by car or with an instructor.

Parking is not published for this site. A leisure centre car park has its own users and its own time limits; check the signs, and do not leave the car somewhere that will be a problem if your test overruns.

The wait was a median of 15.1 weeks for tests taken in July 2026, against a national 11.9, and the first week with a tenth of its slots still free was 14.5 weeks ahead — the two figures nearly match, which means the queue here is real rather than a booking artefact.

Monthly pass rates swing a lot because the numbers are small: July returned 63 per cent from 173 tests and June 49.2 per cent from 242. Grimsby (Coldwater) is 25.6 kilometres away and was waiting only 7.9 weeks, but passes 42.8 per cent. Skegness passes 55.9 at 17.9 weeks. Booking and cancelling is on GOV.UK only.
