Key facts
- Buckie's pass rate was 51.1% in 2025/26 from 268 tests, in line with the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 47 of 67 centres in Scotland (Scotland average 49.3%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 1.8 points above it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 8.5 points, from 59.6% to 51.1%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 6 weeks since booking (shorter than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 15.1 weeks, so waits have shortened by about 9.1 weeks.
The wait at Buckie has collapsed: 18.1 weeks a year ago, 6 weeks now, one of the biggest improvements anywhere in Britain. That alone makes it worth a look if you live within reach. The test is a roundabout test — eight are named across 43.1 kilometres, in a town this size, and every one of the practice loops on this page carries between four and eight of them. Seventy-six per cent of the distance is at 30 mph and 14 per cent at 60. Buckie passes 51.1 per cent, in line with the national average and 172nd of the 302 centres ranked, though it has fallen 8.5 points since 2021/22.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Eight named roundabouts in 43.1 kilometres, in a town of this size, is a lot. St Andrew's Square, Land Street, High Street, West Church Street, Cluny Square, Whispering Meadows, Fairway Road and North High Street between them shape the whole test: every one of the practice loops on this page carries at least four, one carries eight in 7.3 kilometres and another seven in 9.8. Against them there is a single set of traffic signals, one mini-roundabout and five give-way junctions on the entire set.
That balance decides what gets marked. You are rarely waiting at a line for a gap; you are almost always reading an approach, choosing a lane, and signalling off. Taking the wrong lane and then wanting a later exit is the fault that ends tests here.
The right turns are unevenly spread. One 9.8 kilometre loop asks for eleven right turns and three left; an 8.8 kilometre loop asks for thirteen right and seven left. If you draw one of those, most of your junctions will involve crossing traffic.
Seventy-six per cent of the distance is at 30 mph, 14 per cent at 60 and 9 per cent at 20. High Street, West Church Street, Land Street, Barhill Road, Queen Street, St Peter's Road, Great Western Road and Main Street carry most of it, with the A942 and a stretch of dual carriageway. Three zebra crossings, six pieces of traffic calming and 4 schools sit in the area, and there are no level crossings.

Test day at Buckie
The centre is at the Fire Station on East Cathcart Street, AB56 1QJ. One thing to check before you book: GOV.UK states that you cannot access this test centre if you use a wheelchair. If that affects you, ring DVSA and ask what they can arrange instead.
Car tests only are conducted here. No station is close enough to be useful, so everyone arrives by car or with an instructor.
Parking is not published for this site, and a fire station needs its approaches kept clear at all times. Leave the car well away from the doors, on a nearby street, and walk in.
The wait was a median of 6 weeks for tests taken in July 2026, half the national 11.9, and down from 18.1 a year earlier — a fall of twelve weeks, which is among the largest anywhere. The first week with a tenth of its slots still free was 24 weeks ahead, so the short median reflects a queue that has cleared rather than a diary standing open.
May returned 66.7 per cent and April 58.3, on about forty-five tests a month. Huntly is 26.8 kilometres away and passes 63.7 per cent at a wait of 13.3 weeks; Elgin is closer but passes 42.3. Booking and cancelling is on GOV.UK only.
