Rush hour driving practice in Vancouver
Vancouver rush hour is long queues on the main roads, buses, cyclists on dedicated routes and pedestrians who have the right of way at every intersection. The PassRank app has a busy-traffic drive in East Vancouver, in right-hand traffic and km/h, so you can practise queuing, turns and crossings before driving in the city.

What rush hour driving is like in Vancouver
East Vancouver mixes busy arterial roads with quiet residential streets and bike routes. In rush hour the skill is reading who is about to enter the intersection: pedestrians, cyclists and cars.
The drive is dense on purpose, so you practise stopping behind queues, waiting for gaps and not blocking crossings or intersections.
Rules that matter in Vancouver
Right turn on red
In British Columbia you may turn right on red after a full stop unless a sign forbids it, and you must yield to pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles already in or entering the intersection. Signs forbidding it are common in busy areas.
Pedestrians
A pedestrian at an intersection, marked or not, has the right of way to cross. Check your shoulder for people and cyclists before you turn.
Bike routes
Cyclists share the road on bike routes and use dedicated lanes. Check for them before turning and leave space when passing.
Parking on main roads
Many main roads restrict stopping and parking in the rush hours. Signs give the days and times, so read them before you stop.
City speed limit
The default urban speed limit in British Columbia is 50 km/h unless a sign says otherwise.

How to practise it in the app
- Open the app and go to the Drive tab, then choose Rush hour.
- Pick Vancouver: East Vancouver.
- Drive in dense traffic: queue at the lights, wait for gaps, keep crossings and junctions clear.
- Get marked on signals, junctions, speed and lane position, plus stopping on a crossing or in a junction in a queue. Replay and change one thing.
Tips for the drive
- Stop completely at red before turning right, then look left, right and left again before you go.
- Look for bike lanes and cyclists in your mirror before every right turn.
- Replay the drive and aim to arrive at each intersection with a plan for who will cross.
