Road test pass rates in British Columbia
In British Columbia, ICBC runs road tests at its driver licensing offices and, in smaller towns, through driver licensing agents. In 2025, 307,017 car road tests were taken and 49.3% were passed. The figures come from ICBC's open data and cover passenger car tests only. Each office in the table links to its own page, with five years of figures and practice routes around it.
No second road test from October 19, 2026
From that date, drivers on a Class 7 novice licence with a clean record move up to Class 5 through a driving record assessment instead of a second road test. The Class 7 road test, for learners getting their N, stays. Check ICBC's new driver pages for the details that apply to you.

Questions
- What is the road test pass rate in BC?
- In 2025, 48.5% of Class 7 road tests and 50.1% of Class 5 road tests were passed. Across both, 151,497 of 307,017 car road tests were passed (49.3%).
- Which BC office has the highest Class 7 pass rate?
- Among offices with at least 1,000 Class 7 tests in 2025, Courtenay had the highest pass rate (61.0%) and Cranbrook the lowest (39.0%). A higher rate does not make an office easier: who takes the test there, and how ready they are, differs from town to town.
- What is the difference between the Class 7 and Class 5 road test?
- The Class 7 road test takes a learner (Class 7L) to a novice licence, the N. The Class 5 road test took a novice driver to a full licence, and is also taken by some experienced drivers who move to BC. From October 19, 2026, novice drivers with a clean record no longer take a second road test; ICBC assesses their driving record instead.
- How many road tests does ICBC run each year?
- 307,017 car road tests in 2025: 138,452 Class 7 and 168,565 Class 5. These figures do not include motorcycle or commercial road tests.
