Key facts
- Pembroke Dock's pass rate was 50.1% in 2025/26 from 1,769 tests, in line with the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 17 of 21 centres in Wales (Wales average 52.4%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 2.3 points below it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 12.4 points, from 62.5% to 50.1%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 13.8 weeks since booking; the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 7.4 weeks ahead.
The Pembroke Dock centre sits inside the old Royal Dockyard, in the Captain Superintendent's Building behind the dockyard walls. That address is the first thing to sort out, because the way in is through the dockyard rather than off a normal high street. Once you are driving, the test is a mix of a tight Victorian town grid and the newer roads out towards the Cleddau estuary. Mini-roundabouts dominate: nine of them sit within two and a half kilometres of the centre, against only two conventional roundabouts. Both car tests and motorcycle module 2 tests are run here. The pass rate sits close to the national average but towards the lower end for Wales, and it has fallen a fair way since 2021.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
The road profile here is unusual in one specific way: mini-roundabouts outnumber ordinary roundabouts by a wide margin. There are nine mini-roundabouts within two and a half kilometres of the centre and only two conventional ones, at the Pembrokeshire Science and Technology Park and the Cleddau Bridge Business Park. Mini-roundabouts are where tests are lost. Signal for the exit, give way to the right, keep the wheels off the painted circle, and do not treat a small one as a give-way line you can drift across because it looks empty.
Most of the town sits at 20 mph, in line with the Welsh default on restricted roads, and around four in five of the tagged roads near the centre carry that limit. The older streets around Market Street, Commercial Row, Water Street and the terraces off Melville Terrace and Bellevue Terrace run in short blocks with junctions coming up quickly, so the reading-ahead has to start early. London Road and Meyrick Owen Way carry the through traffic and step the limit up, and the B4325 gives the loops their longer straight sections.
There is a level crossing in the area, and the practice loops on this page also take in Treowen Road, Military Road, Fort Road and Western Way, where the built-up streets give way to open ground and the limit rises. The pattern to rehearse is the drop back down: coming off a 40 or a 50 into a 20 street with a mini-roundabout not far past the sign.

Test day at Pembroke Dock
The centre is in the Captain Superintendent's Building in the Royal Dockyard, which is not a building you will find by looking for a shopfront. Give yourself extra time on a first visit to find the right entrance inside the dockyard. Pembroke Dock station is about a kilometre away, so arriving by train and walking in is realistic if you are not being dropped off. Candidate parking is not something DVSA publishes for this centre; treat the streets nearby as the fallback and get there early enough that a hunt for a space is not part of your morning.
The centre runs car tests and motorcycle module 2 tests, so the on-road bike examiners work out of the same place. DVSA publishes that it will make arrangements here for candidates with a disability, which is worth a phone call before the date rather than a conversation on the morning.
Once the licence check and insurance declaration are done, the eyesight check happens outside on a parked plate. The drive begins with the run out of the dockyard and into the town streets, which is a slower, more enclosed start than most centres give you. Mirrors and observation matter more than speed in the first minute.
