- On waiting times, the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.

Check where you are meeting the examiner. DVSA has changed the meeting place for Tiree to the airport at Crossapol, PA77 6TW, so an older listing showing the Scarinish Hotel will send you to the wrong place. The pass rate is 80 per cent, from ten tests in 2024/25 — the highest figure in Scotland and much too small to mean anything, so read it as a curiosity. The wait has improved sharply, from a median of 24 weeks a year ago to 16.3 weeks in May 2026. Every road around this centre is national limit; there is not one set of traffic signals, one roundabout, one level crossing or one school anywhere on the island's practice loops.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Every road around this centre is national limit. Not most of them — all of them, which is something no other test area in Britain can say. There is no 30 zone to slow you down and no 20 zone at all, so the whole drive is judged on how you handle an open road: the speed you choose for what you can see, how early you come off it for a bend, and whether you hold a steady line without wandering.
That does not mean fast. The B8065, B8068 and B8069 carry the driving, and they run low across the machair with bends, dips and crests that hide what is coming. National limit is the sign, not the sensible speed, and choosing well below it where the view closes is exactly what an examiner wants to see. Judging that for yourself, rather than waiting to be told by a sign, is the whole test here.
There is nothing else to manage. No traffic signals anywhere in the area, no roundabouts, no mini-roundabouts, no level crossings and no schools.
The turning is the lightest anywhere. An 11.2 kilometre loop asks for four right turns and five left. A 10.7 kilometre loop asks for two and four. Across all five loops and 45.6 kilometres, nothing asks for more than five turns in either direction. Pier Road is the only named street on the whole set, and two loops name none at all. There is no dual carriageway.

Test day at Isle of Tiree
The meeting place has moved. Tiree is a remote centre, and DVSA now meets candidates at Tiree Airport, Crossapol, PA77 6TW, rather than at the Scarinish Hotel. Check the address on your confirmation, and if it still shows the hotel, ring and confirm before you set off.
Car tests only. There is no railway on the island and no parking is published for the meeting place. An airport terminal this size has a small car park shared with everyone meeting a flight, so leave room for that and arrive with a few minutes in hand.
The wait has come down a long way. Learners tested in May 2026 had waited a median of 16.3 weeks, against 24 weeks a year earlier — nearly eight weeks off. It is still above the national median of 11.9, and the first week with a tenth of its slots still free was 22.8 weeks ahead, but there is a useful detail behind that: a fifth of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in May 2026. On a centre this small, that usually means a cancellation or a newly released date is a realistic thing to wait for.
There is no other test centre within reach — anywhere else means a ferry and the best part of two days. Book early, and keep the date you are given. Booking and cancelling is on GOV.UK only.
