Key facts
- Fraserburgh's pass rate was 64% in 2025/26 from 531 tests, 14 points above the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 19 of 67 centres in Scotland (Scotland average 49.3%), one of the higher pass rates in the region, 14.7 points above it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 9.3 points, from 73.3% to 64%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 18.1 weeks since booking (longer than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 14.6 weeks, so waits have grown by about 3.5 weeks.
Eighty-nine per cent of the distance on the practice loops on this page is at 30 mph. Fraserburgh is a one-speed test: no long fast road, no 20 zone to speak of, just town streets and the junctions between them — 24 give-way junctions across 40.2 kilometres against two sets of traffic signals. The loops are short too, five of them between 7 and 9.1 kilometres, so the junction work comes thick. It passes 64 per cent, 27th of the 302 centres ranked and 14.7 points above the Scottish average, though that is down 9.3 points on 2021/22. The wait has grown from 11 weeks to 18.1 in a year.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Almost the whole test is at one speed. Eighty-nine per cent of the distance is at 30 mph, with 7 per cent at 60, 2 per cent at 40 and a little at 5 around the harbour. There is no long stretch to settle into and nothing much to change gear for; what you are being marked on is what you do at junctions, and there is a junction every few hundred metres.
Twenty-four give-way junctions sit across the practice loops on this page against two sets of traffic signals, and there is not one mini-roundabout on the set. Four roundabouts are named — Boothby Road, Cemetery Road, South Harbour Road and Dennyduff Road — and two loops carry none at all. An 8 kilometre loop asks for nine right turns and twelve left with no roundabout in it anywhere.
The loops are short, between 7 and 9.1 kilometres, which packs that junction work close together. Eight pieces of traffic calming are spread among them, and 6 schools sit in the area.
Strichen Road, Station Brae, Seaforth Street, Bath Street, Commerce Street, Charlotte Street, Castle Street, Saltoun Place, Watermill Road and Westshore Road carry most of the driving, with the A981 out of town and a short stretch of dual carriageway on the set. There are three signalled crossings, one zebra and no level crossings.

Test day at Fraserburgh
The centre is Office No. 7 in Business Park South on Harbour Road, AB43 9TN, down by the harbour rather than in the town centre. GOV.UK states that you can access this test centre if you use a wheelchair. Car tests only are conducted here.
No station is close enough to matter, so everyone arrives by car or with an instructor.
Parking is not published for this site. A business park usually leaves you to find a space on the estate roads; the marked bays belong to the offices, so allow a couple of minutes to walk in rather than circling.
The wait was a median of 18.1 weeks for tests taken in July 2026, against a national 11.9, and the first week with a tenth of its slots still free was 24 weeks ahead. It has grown by about seven weeks in a year — the July 2025 median was 11.
The monthly figures move on small numbers, but the spread is worth knowing: June returned 77.3 per cent from 66 tests and December 56.1 from 41. Peterhead is 25.6 kilometres away, passes 53.2 per cent and was waiting only 7.4 weeks — much sooner, for a noticeably harder test. Banff passes 57.5 at 14 weeks. Booking and cancelling is on GOV.UK only.
