Key facts
- Camborne's pass rate was 40.6% in 2025/26 from 6,271 tests, 9.4 points below the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 21 of 21 centres in South West (South West average 51.7%), one of the lower pass rates in the region, 11.1 points below it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 7.3 points, from 47.9% to 40.6%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 5.6 weeks since booking (shorter than the national median of 11.9 weeks); the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 24 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 7.9 weeks, so waits have shortened by about 2.3 weeks.
Camborne has the lowest pass rate of any centre in the South West, and it has fallen further since 2021, so nothing about this test should be treated as a formality. The area explains some of it. Nearly half the mapped roads within a couple of miles are 20 mph and another third are 30, but the A3047 runs through with a stretch of dual carriageway on it, and there are four level crossings inside the same radius. Twenty mini-roundabouts sit among the terraces of Camborne, Pool and Redruth. Car tests are taken from Carn Brea Hubb on Station Road at Pool rather than from the older building on Wilson Way. The practice loops on this page run between about five and eight miles.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Four level crossings sit within a couple of miles of the centre, which is more than most candidates will ever have met in lessons. The drill is simple and worth rehearsing: approach at a speed you can stop from, do not enter unless your exit is clear, and if the lights start while you are waiting, stay put rather than trying to beat them. Being stopped at one mid-test also costs you nothing, so long as you handle the restart cleanly.
Mini-roundabouts are the other constant. Twenty of them are in the area, mostly on the older streets linking Camborne, Pool and Redruth, and they are the junction that produces the most avoidable faults. Give way to the right, signal for the exit, and go round the circle rather than across it.
Nearly half the mapped roads nearby are 20 mph and another third are 30, so most of the drive is slow, tight and parked up. Chapel Hill, East Hill and Dolcoath Road are steep enough that hill starts and holding the car on the clutch are real skills here rather than box-ticking. Church Road, Trevenson Road and Tincroft Road carry the rest of the town driving.
Against all that, the A3047 and the dual carriageway give one genuinely fast section, usually reached along Dudnance Lane or Wilson Way. Joining at the speed of the traffic already there is the part that shows nerves. Manoeuvres are usually asked for on the quieter residential roads off Carn Brea Lane and Carn Brea Avenue.

Test day at Camborne
Camborne works from two addresses and going to the wrong one costs you the test. Car, lorry and bus, ADI and standard check tests are all taken from Carn Brea Hubb on Station Road at Pool. Motorcycle module 1 and module 2 tests still run from the older centre on Wilson Way. Check the address on your booking before you set off, because the two are not within walking distance of each other.
DVSA is specific about parking here: candidates are to park on the road opposite Carn Brea Hubb, and not in the leisure centre car park or outside the hubb itself. That is a published instruction rather than local custom, so follow it even if there is an obvious space. Allow time to find a legal spot on the road and walk back.
GOV.UK publishes no access line for this centre beyond saying DVSA will make arrangements for candidates with a disability, so ring ahead if you need anything specific. The examiner checks your licence and asks you to sign the insurance declaration, and the eyesight check is done outside before you get in. Booking, moving and cancelling all happen through GOV.UK.
