Key facts
- Bangor's pass rate was 62.2% in 2025/26 from 4,032 tests, 12.2 points above the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 3 of 21 centres in Wales (Wales average 52.4%), one of the higher pass rates in the region, 9.8 points above it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has risen by 7.9 points, from 54.3% to 62.2%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 11.9 weeks since booking; the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 14.8 weeks ahead.
- 21.6% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
There are two sets of traffic lights on the entire 56 km of practice loops on this page. Two. Bangor is about as far from a signalled town test as a mainland centre gets: the routes leave the Llandegai Industrial Estate and spend most of their distance at 40 or 60 mph on roads like Ffordd Llandegai, Lon Cefn Ty and Lôn Pobty, with only a seventh of it at 30. What replaces the lights is judgement. Thirteen give-way junctions, open bends, and roundabouts that arrive without a queue in front of them to tell you what to do. Bangor has one of the three highest pass rates in Wales and it has climbed sharply since 2021, though this is a smaller centre and the figure rests on around four thousand tests a year.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Speed is the theme. Only about a seventh of the distance on the practice loops on this page is at 30 mph. Forty-two per cent is at 40, another 27 per cent at 60, and a short share at 70. For a centre attached to a city, that is an unusual profile, and it means the faults that show up here are not the town ones. They are sitting too far below a limit on a clear road, misjudging a bend, and hesitating at a junction where the gap was there.
The give-way junctions do the work. There are 13 of them on the loops against two sets of traffic signals and two signalled crossings. Nobody is going to hold you at a red while you think. You look, you judge the gap, you go, and that decision is what gets marked.
Roundabouts appear more often than the single named roundabout road suggests. Ffordd Llandegai carries one, there is a mini-roundabout on the loops, and the longest loop takes in ten roundabout entries across 12.5 km. Treat each as a fresh decision rather than assuming the last one taught you anything about this one.
Wales lowered the default limit on restricted roads to 20 mph in September 2023, and short sections of these loops are signed at 20 and below. The change is recent enough that plenty of candidates still drive through the sign at 30 without registering it.
Three traffic-calming features sit on the loops. Manoeuvres are asked for on the quieter residential streets away from the fast roads.

Test day at Bangor
The centre is on the Llandegai Industrial Estate at Llandygai, on the edge of the city rather than in it. Bangor station is about a mile away in a straight line, so the train is workable, but most candidates arrive with an instructor.
DVSA publishes no accessibility information for Bangor. That is not the same as saying there is none, but if you need step-free entry, a particular room, or any other arrangement, ring DVSA before the day rather than raising it on arrival. Candidate parking is not published either. Industrial estate units usually have space in front or on the estate road, which is the typical picture rather than a guarantee for this address.
Bangor runs more test types than most centres of its size: car, motorcycle module 1 off-road, motorcycle module 2 on-road, and ADI part 3. All booking, moving and cancelling happens through GOV.UK.
Two practical points about the drive. Welsh road signs and street names are the norm here, so a candidate who has only practised from English names should spend some time on the local ones first. And because the routes get out to open road quickly, the test can be at 60 mph inside a few minutes of leaving.
