Key facts
- Aberystwyth's pass rate was 55.1% in 2025/26 from 1,529 tests, 5.1 points above the national average of 50.0%.
- That puts it 9 of 21 centres in Wales (Wales average 52.4%), a mid-table pass rates in the region, 2.7 points above it.
- Since 2021/22 the pass rate has fallen by 7.9 points, from 63% to 55.1%.
- On waiting times, learners who took a test in August 2026 had waited a median of 10.6 weeks since booking; the first week with 10% or more of slots still free was 12.6 weeks ahead.
- A year earlier (August 2025) the median wait was 8.4 weeks, so waits have grown by about 2.2 weeks.
- 33% of the standard slots in the booking window were still unbooked in August 2026, which usually means a cancellation or new date is realistic here.
The driving test at Aberystwyth is decided at give-way lines. The practice loops on this page hold 55 of them and only seven sets of traffic signals, so for most of the drive nothing tells you when to go and you work it out yourself. Four mini-roundabouts add to the same pattern. Aberystwyth is also a Welsh 20 mph town: since the default limit on restricted roads dropped in 2023, roughly two thirds of the loop length carries a 20 sign, and the names on those signs come in Welsh above English. The pass rate here has been drifting down for several years. It still sits above the national average and a little above the Welsh one.

The same access also opens the four test manoeuvres and eight roundabout scenarios: the two things a route drive cannot teach you.
Nearly two thirds of the loop length is 20 mph and only about an eighth is 40. There is no A-road and no dual carriageway on the loops at all. That makes Aberystwyth a slow test, and a slow test is not an easy one. Holding 20 accurately on a road that feels like a 30 is its own skill, and there are eleven traffic calming features on the loops to keep reminding you of it.
The junctions are the real work. There are 55 give-way lines against seven sets of signals, so the examiner watches you make the same decision over and over with no light to hide behind. Four mini-roundabouts sharpen it further. Painted circles arrive quickly at low speed, the give way is still to the right, and a driver who stops dead on one holds up the whole street.
Roundabout locations named on the loops are Alexandra Road, Park Avenue, Parc-y-Llyn, Penparcau Road and Heol-y-Bont. The busiest single loop runs 9.7 km around Park Avenue and takes in nine of them. The quietest, 9.2 km out towards Llanbadarn Road, has two. The longest covers 12.7 km.
Two level crossings sit on the loops, which is a lot for a town of this size. Signs are bilingual, Welsh above English, and the Welsh names are what your instructor will use. Seven zebra crossings and five signalled ones are spread through the town centre streets, on Mill Street, Bridge Street, Great Darkgate Street and Terrace Road.

Test day at Aberystwyth
The centre is not a DVSA building. It sits inside Aberystwyth Football Club on Park Avenue, which means the door you want is a clubhouse door and the postcode alone will not tell you which one. Give yourself time on the first visit.
DVSA lists two kinds of test here, car and ADI part 3. There are no motorcycle tests. Nothing is published about wheelchair access or about arrangements for candidates with a disability at this centre, so if you need either, ring before the day rather than turning up and asking.
Parking and waiting facilities are not published either. A football ground has a car park, but on a test day it is shared with whoever else is using the club, so treat a space near the door as luck rather than a plan. What is unusually good here is the walk. The Vale of Rheidol terminus is about two hundred metres away, one of the shortest station walks to any centre in Wales.
Booking, moving and cancelling tests is only through GOV.UK. The wait has grown over the past year and now runs at about ten and a half weeks.
