Module 1 slow ride and U-turn
Two of the seven module 1 exercises: a slow ride at about walking pace, as if beside the examiner, then a U-turn inside an area about the width of a road. Both reward a steady throttle, a covered rear brake and your eyes up.

Drive it with the coach
Guided mode puts the reference points on screen and stops you the moment you drift.

Test yourself
Test mode says nothing and marks you in the examiner's words. Three clean runs in a row and it is learnt.
The slow ride
You ride slowly in a straight line, keeping the bike balanced without paddling with your feet. In the simulator the slow ride is the stretch between the two cones on the left; going faster than 10 km/h there is recorded as a fault.
The U-turn
Look over your right shoulder first, then turn on full lock and look where you want to end up, not at the line you are worried about. Touching or crossing any of the lines is a serious fault in the simulator.
Step by step
These are the words the simulator says to you, in order, the same briefing you would get from your instructor over the radio.
- 1Slow ride: walking pace along the left, between the two cones. Cover the rear brake, keep your head up.
- 2U-turn after the dashed line. Look over your right shoulder, then full lock and look where you want to go, not at the lines.
- 3Back on the left, facing the other way. Tap Finished.
Common questions
Why does looking at the line make me hit it?
The bike goes where your eyes go. Turn your head early towards the exit of the U-turn and the steering follows; stare at the line and you ride towards it.
How wide is the U-turn area in the simulator?
Nine metres between the lines, a practice width. Once you can turn cleanly in it, try it tighter in a car park to build a margin for the test.
