Module 1 cornering and controlled stop
Ride round a bend, then brake progressively and stop with your front wheel inside a marked box. It is the gentle version of the emergency stop that comes next, and it is where you learn to brake with both brakes, upright, before you have to do it quickly.

Drive it with the coach
Guided mode puts the reference points on screen and stops you the moment you drift.

Test yourself
Test mode says nothing and marks you in the examiner's words. Three clean runs in a row and it is learnt.
The bend
Build your speed on the straight before the bend, look through the bend to the exit and hold a steady throttle round it. Braking or shutting the throttle in the middle of the bend unsettles the bike.
The stop
Once you are upright and straight, ease off and use both brakes progressively so the front wheel stops in the box. In the simulator the box is 1.2 m long and the front wheel's contact point has to finish inside it.
Step by step
These are the words the simulator says to you, in order, the same briefing you would get from your instructor over the radio.
- 1Look over your right shoulder and move off. Build your speed on the straight, before the bend, not in it.
- 2Look through the bend to the exit. Hold a steady throttle; the bike leans, you stay relaxed.
- 3Controlled stop: ease off, both brakes progressively, and stop with the front wheel in the box. Left foot down last.
- 4Front wheel in the box. Tap Finished.
Common questions
What counts as the front wheel being in the box?
In the simulator, the point where the front tyre meets the ground must be inside the painted box when you stop, with the bike pointing along the lane.
